SEAM ROLLERS – The 3-N-1 SEAM-MACHINE® has a built-in seam roller that was engineered specifically for synthetic turf installations. Most of the rollers currently in use for turf installation are not designed for synthetic turf installation. The three most widely used rollers are the water fill lawn roller, the ride-on asphalt roller and the carpet/linoleum metal roller. The rider-on asphalt rollers are too heavy, the 2,000 pound weight will squeeze too much of the adhesive out of the seam, which weakens the seam long term. This is a very common mistake as 1 ton rollers are often used to touch up the stone subbase just before covering with the turf. The lawn roller and carpet rollers are inconvenient to move and store and don’t always make it out to the seaming area as needed due to the inconvenience they pose especially the carpet roller. These rollers are used because until now they were the best options. The 3-N-1 SEAM-MACHINE® is as easy to move around as rolling a hand truck and will always be on the turf close to where the seaming work is being done. The 3-N-1 SEAM-MACHINE® weighs 120 pounds with 100% welded steel constructed frame, consisting of 3/8” flat steel and 1 ½” round steel. It has a 10” diameter by 12” wide non-stick roller surface. It has heavy duty ball bearings which makes rolling synthetic turf seams an effortless activity. Because some install crews like to walk their seams and other like to ride, the SEAM-MACHINE® even has an optional tow kit, so it can be pulled behind a utility vehicle to roll seams.

SEAMING EQUIPMENT – The 3-N-1 SEAM-MACHINE® contains a premium Seam Tape Dispenser with 3 GluBoxes. It contains and turf tool kit with trap fiber tool, scissors, needle nose pliers and utility blade so the installer rolling seams is always traveling with tools to do quality assurance work. The Seam Tape Dispenser is constructed of quality welded steel. It can be used in a stationary position or the pull rope can be used to pull it along the seam on windy days. All the equipment is stored right on the SEAM-MACHINE® and the built in transport allows the installer to easily move the equipment from seam to seam. Once the seaming equipment is removed, the SEAM-MACHINE® has a custom design glue bucket holder built into the frame. The installers can now use it to move buckets of Proline T44 adhesive to the next seaming location. While a regular asphalt or old fashioned tile or slate roofing can need repairing or re-installing every 10-15 years, a metal roof, if properly take care of, can last for up to 50 years or even more. Metal roofs are able to withstand just about anything that Mother Nature can throw at them. Compared to other kinds of roofs, there really is no contest when it comes to strength and durability. Most metal roofs come with warranties for up to 30 years, and if you decide to recoat it then perhaps you’ll never need to repair it in your lifetime.

Metal Roof Types

There are several different kinds of metal that are used as roofing materials, and it’s important to know about the unique characteristics and differences between them.

Steel Roofs

The most common kind of metal roof is made from steel. Tin Roofs

Tin roofing has quite a long history in the US. Tin smith craftsmen used to do a roaring trade in tin roofs for residential homes for many, many years although they are far less common now. Some are still installed, but tin is nowhere near as durable as other kinds of metal, steel for instance, and needs to be coated regularly in order to preserve their condition and stop them from corroding.

Aluminum Roofs

Probably the longest lasting metal roof material, aluminum can last longer than even the building does sometimes. Aluminum does not get affected or degraded by the natural elements it is exposed to, nor by salt or oxidation. While the paint may fade, the roof will always last.

Copper Roofs

Highly expensive, but offering reliability, beauty and style all in one, copper roofs can be something of a luxury. Unpainted copper has its own natural grace and classical beauty that will never go out of style. Copper is quite similar to aluminum because it is very long lasting though the color will slowly change, but even then it doesn’t matter because the ‘aged copper’ look is very much sought after. Because of its prohibitive cost, copper is rarely used on residential homes. Only the most exclusive homes will have copper roofs installed. The reason for the cost is that copper itself is a very expensive material, and the installation process is also a very difficult process, requiring lots of soldering and mechanical attachment. If you opt for copper shingles, then the process for installing them is the same as for aluminum and steel roofs, therefore the cost will be quite a lot cheaper.

Zinc Roofs

Zinc roofs are not that much different from copper roofs overall. Both are expensive and both are extremely long lasting. However, copper is widely preferred as it is more aesthetically pleasing.

Iron roofs

The last common metal roofing material is iron. Iron roofs are not common at all, and offer much the same qualities as steel roofs do.

Cleaning

The first and most important step for <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link/3850965']);” href=”http://www.epdmcoatings.com”>metal roof maintenance</a> is to keep it clean. Cleaning will help to reduce the build up of algae, mildew and mold, and will go a long way towards ensuring that the roof remains in the best possible condition.

Step by Step Roof Cleaning:

First of all you need to assess the roof’s condition. An older roof that is worn and damaged will need to be cleaned much more thoroughly and more carefully than a newer roof.
Make sure that it is safe to work on your roof. Ascertain beforehand that you can reach all the places on the roof where it will be necessary to go. If you feel it is required, wear a harness or some kind of safety rope
Use a wire brush to scratch away any corrosion, rust or excess paintwork before you start cleaning. For harder objects, you can use a putty knife, but be careful not to scratch the paintwork where there is no excess paint as this could damage the roof sheets.
Use a TriSodium Phosphate solution (TSP) and mix it with water, approximately half a cup to one gallon of solution. Bring the solution up to the roof in a large size bucket and apply it to any dirty areas, especially where there is mildew or mold. Then you neeed to take a soft brush and scrub the area until it’s clean. If the roof is especially dirty it might be a good idea to scrub the whole roof down. After scrubbing the roof, rinse the washed areas with buckets of water, making sure that no TSP residue is left over. Once the roof is dry, you can evaluate its condition again.
The final step may or may not be required, usually depending on how old and dirty the roof is. If you think it is necessary, use a power washer on the roof. This is the best possible way to clean off the hard to remove, ground in dirt. Begin at the top (ridge) of the roof and work downwards, as this allows for the debris and grime to be washed away as you clean. Try to keep the nozzle of your power washer at the same distance from the roof as you gradually work your way down spraying it. If necessary, add a little detergent to the water, but not too much because you’ll want to avoid suds which can leave a sticky film on the roof.

But I’ve been running into the problem, that since I do not smoke my friends will excuse themselves to go outside when a craving hits.  Which I thank them for profusely.

What I do not thank them for are the cigarette butts that were littering my yard.  Yuck!  I quit smoking so I do not want to have to go through my yard individually picking up each and every butt from someone else’s cigarette habit. (That and getting that smell on my hands makes me start craving one, which is never a good thing. Must have willpower.)

But I did find a way to solve my little dilemma.  I had a galvanized bucket that a friend gave me (she’d ordered several of these metal buckets for centerpieces for her wedding, and had some extras).  So I looked online to see what all needed to go into an outdoor ashtray.  For the most part you just fill the bucket within an inch of the top rim with sand and set it in a spot where the smoker’s will notice and use it.

Some people put a few handfuls of charcoal into the bucket before pouring the sand, it is said to cut down on the smell, but since my bucket is outside I’m really not that worried about it.

To clean it out you can just use a kitty litter scoop or if you have an old deep fryer scoop it works too (I had ordered a few extra deep fryer parts when I kept losing my original scoop, I found it, so now its my cigarette butt scoop).
